What is The National Schools Regatta?

The National Schools' Regatta is the largest and most exciting regatta for junior race calendar in Great Britain.

The regatta opens on Friday with the Junior 14 and Junior 15 crews racing, Saturday sees the Junior 15 to Junior 18 compete and Sunday is for Junior 16 to Junior 18 competitors. To win a National Schools Regatta medal at each age group, is a great achievement recognised across the rowing community.

The regatta attracts crews from over 350 clubs and schools with over 5000 competitors. It is the premier junior regatta in the country. With racing for 10 hours per day, exciting, closely-matched rounds and finals, this is the regatta where you will see future Olympic Champions start out!

NSR is the high point of the racing season and has become a mainstay of the junior rowing calendar and competition for the prestigious cups is fierce. The range of ages and abilities offers racing to the very experienced and those who are only just beginning their rowing journey.

Who are we?

NSR is a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting junior rowing at grass roots.

NSR Chairman Michael Martin is supported by a Committee and a huge team of volunteers. The Committee members are all involved in junior rowing at different schools and clubs bringing a wide range of expertise and perspectives. NSR relies entirely on this team to deliver a first-class event for the competitors, their dedicated coaches and army of supporters.

NSR has continued, since its inception, to recognise the importance of offering racing experience to all levels of rowing competitor and not just the top athletes in the top boats. NSR is a regatta that offers racing to those at the beginning of their junior rowing career and those at the top.

Students from rowing clubs and schools train all year to enjoy the summer regatta season, and racing side by side at NSR is one of the rewards for the gruelling training during the winter months. The tension and excitement during the regatta show how National Schools’ has become the event to race at during the junior racing season.
